Vita Voitkane was born in Riga, Latvia. She studied for a Bachelor's Degree  in Primary and Pre school Teaching at  Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy (Latvia), graduating in 2009. She went on to study for a Master of Education in Pedagogie at the University of Latvia (Riga), graduating in 2013, the main field of study being Educational Treatment of Diversity. The subject of her independent Research Dissertation was “Special Educational Needs for Autism within main stream Middle school Education in Italy”. On completing the Master of Education, Vita continued her studies by joining the Doctoral Degree programme in Pedagogy at The University of Latvia where she continues to study towards a PhD. Vita's interest in Pedagogie for Special Educational Needs, initiated in Rome has developed over many years employed as a Specialist Teaching Assistant working with children with disability, in Early Years and Primary education.
