Abstract

Topicality/Problem. Idea management systems (IMS) are manageable, systematic tools, tool kits or complex systems that helps to generate and evaluate ideas and are an important element of organizational development. Many well-known organizations (e.g. Volkswagen, Microsoft, GE Healthcare, Procter and Gamble, Boeing, Siemens, etc) are successfully applying web-based IMS. But there is no research that explores the impact of web-based IMS on intellectual resources development.

Research aim – to research the impact of IMS on intellectual resources development and to provide recommendations to practitioners for its broader assistance in enterprises to ensure innovation acceleration.

Methodological approach. The empirical research was based on 447 enterprise survey applying.

The research results show the following results: IMS application has resulted in a new intellectual resource, in a patents and improved innovation acceleration.

Research limitations. Survey research may limit the generalisability of the result, because the survey target group is commercially available web-based IMS applied enterprises.

Originality/value.  The research based on the empirical data analysis contributes to understanding the directions and significance of IMS impact on intellectual resources development.

  • Elīna Miķelsone, BA School of Business and Finance
    PhD candidate Elina Mikelsone has more than 10 years of professional experience in innovation, idea and project management on international and national level. Two projects assisted by Mrs Mikelsone have received European Enterprise Promotion Awards recognition. To promote innovation and creativity in organisations she has established an NGO - Idea and Innovation Institute. She is active lecturer and guest lecturer in academic (e.g. RTU, RISEBA, BA, RSU, BVK) and non-formal education organisations, events. Mikelsone has established a novel non-formal education program for teaching creativity and innovation - Idea Fitness, applying innovative and involving learning approaches. More than 400 people from Latvia and abroad has participated in this program. Last two years she has mentored 79 new enterprises in project Create for regions. During the last 4 years she has participated in more than 20 scientific conferences and has published more than 15 papers about idea management.
  • Tatjana Volkova, BA School of Business and Finance
    Dr.oec., prof. Tatjana Volkova is a Professor, a leading researcher and Member of Scientific Committee of BA. In this projectshe is no only one of the main implementors but also project manager based on her experience. Her research findings have beenpublished in a number of peer reviewed books and journals and presented at numerous international scientific and practicalconferences. Tatjana is also a member of Editorial Committee of Scientific Journals in Latvia and internationally. Tatjana Volkovawas involved in international and national research projects, e.g. More2 – Support for continued data collection and analysisconcerning mobility patterns and career paths of researchers. Granted by the European Commission, DG Research and Innovation.RTD/B2/2011-S236-359211, in a research project: A study of global faculty salary/remuneration. Conducted by BC Centre forInternational HE (USA) and the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. The main tasks in the project will be to deliverassessment of the financial sector development challenges from theoretical and empirical perspectives (inc. competences,technologies and role of education), as well to deliver an expert assessment of available educational programmes compared todemanded ones (local, regional and global dimension) and to participate in the development of a Core Competence ManagementModel for increasing the competitiveness of financial sector of Baltic Sea Region.
  • Aivars Spilbergs, BA School of Business and Finance
    Dr. oec. Aivars Spilbergs is the Docent in BA and a senior risk advisor in SEB banka. Previous experience includes working ineconomics and finance research (1976-1996 research work in the departments of Cybernetics in economics and Mathematicaleconomics in University of Latvia) and professional work in banking sector (1995-2016 – head multiple departments in SEBbanka – Credit management, Risk management, and Risk centre). Recent activities include: 1) project manager of a Basel IIproject ‘’Development and implementation of a credit risk assessment model’’ in SEB banka (2005-2014); 2) Development andimplementation of assessment methods and stress tests for internal capital adequacy assessment in banks (2009-2017); 3)Development and implementation of a model for assessing expected credit losses in accordance to IFRS9 (2015-2017); 4) Councilmember in Global lending conference (2015-2018); 5) Chair of the Risk Management Committee in Association of LatvianCommercial Banks (2014-2016).

    Dr. oec. Elita Lielā is the Programme Director at BA School of Business and Finance, Riga, Latvia. She has more than 20 yearsof professional experience in a public sector (ministries and government institutions of Latvia) as well as in a private sector, forexample, pharmacy, consultations, etc. Her research focuses on risk management (her last research is “Risk management issuesand problems of projects implemented by companies and co-financed by EU funds in Latvia”) and innovation policy.
